Exporting Assessments

If you are designing items to be used by a client's 3rd party item-banking platform or test delivery engine, you need to export the assessment in some form they can accept, such as QTI (Question & Test Interoperability).

To export assessments:

  1. Click on Globe icon on the top navigation bar, and select a workspace.
  2. Select the Assessments panel.
  3. Click the selection box for an assessment.

From the Actions menu, choose Export Selected.

The Export dialog appears.

  1. Enter an “Export Name” and “Description.”
  2. Select a format: QTI 2.1 or Pearson Schoolnet.
  3. Choose either or both of these options:
    • “Merge multiple contexts into a single context document.” This combines all passages into a single file.
    • “Export only selected curriculum sets.” This opens a list of standards groups so that you can specify which alignments to export. Select one or more standards groups.
  4. Click Start Export

The export begins, and you see a message indicating that the export is in progress.:

Accessing the Export

To review and access the exported material, from the Options menu [1] on the navigation bar, choose Exports [2]:

The Exports page appears:

Two files are typically available: export.zip and export-log.txt.

The folders contain files associated with the assessment items.

Folder Name Description
Attachments Contains subfolders (titled by Resource ID), which contain corresponding graphic files
audio Contains subfolders (titled by Resource ID), which contain corresponding audio files
images Contains subfolders (titled by Resource ID), which contain corresponding image files
items Contains items listed in order of Item ID. File Form: ITEM-LOGIC--[ID].xml
passages Contains passages listed in order of Resource ID. File Form: RSC-LOGIC--[ID].html

If you chose to "merge multiple contexts into a single context document" then this also contains a single file with information on all the passages, videos, and audio files. File Form: RSC-LOGIC--[IDx-IDy].html (indicating a range of Resource IDs)
styles Contains bundled.css and inline.css, which contain styling information that is applied via specific formatting tags
tests Contains a list of assessments in order of Assessment ID. File Form: test-[ID].xml
video Contains subfolders (titled by Resource ID), which contain corresponding video files

Note: Images, audio files, and video files are those that were used in either items or passages.

The IMSMANIFEST.XML file contains information about the export and details about each item, including alignment and metadata information.
